Without it, the birds are taken two hours away to the Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro. AdAttorneys for the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center said an appeal was expected. AdIn response, the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center has filed a countersuit against Creasy, Maver and the Seymours alleging conspiracy to injure the nonprofit in reputation, trade, business, and profession.

The chapter started an online petition to support restrictions and oppose Amherst County from accepting a resolution of their own. Witt points out that while theyโve collected 400 signatures so far, only a fraction are from Amherst County residents. About a half dozen people spoke at the podium and about 50 people in total filled the room at Mondayโs meeting. Isiah Knight is a standout in the group and said he doesnโt support pandemic restrictions, nor those enforcing them. Knight wants the county to pass their version of the resolution, following Campbell Countyโs lead, but with the ability to detain.

Leaders said the real estate tax relief to taxpayers is an โinnovative approachโ that is โseemingly uniqueโ statewide. County leaders said this is an โunprecedentedโ maneuver, so theyโre involving a third party, Virginia Community Capital (VCC). The budget includes a $2.7 million overall reduction in spending.

Theres a growing call for county leaders to remove the statue from in front of the courthouse. It reads "to the memory of the Confederate dead of Franklin County. Connor and others said theyd like to see a monument to Booker T. Washington, the famous African-American thought leader born in Franklin County, erected in front of the courthouse alongside the Confederate monument. The Confederate monument is a replacement of the original after a driver crashed into and destroyed it about a decade ago.
