When he checked Facebook, he saw a headline that police were looking for his brother-in-law, Matthew Bernard. Then, within 30 minutes of reading the headline, he had talked to his team’s manager and was at the airport. Nothing will ever come close to feeling how I felt that day, and how I felt in that moment," said Bivens.

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. - The Virginia man who police say killed the wife, son and mother-in-law of a minor league baseball pitcher may have operated under some kind of "religious motivation." That's according to a search warrant filed in Pittsylvania County. The Danville Register and Bee reported Friday that police cited the religious aspect while seeking access to Matthew Bernard's cellphones. Authorities say Bernard killed his sister, Emily Marie Bivens, and her 1-year-old son Cullen Bivens, and his mother, Joan Bernard, in late August. Emily Bivens was married to Blake Bivens, a pitcher for the Montgomery Biscuits, an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. - Family and friends will come together Saturday to celebrate the lives of three family members killed in Tuesday's murders in Pittsylvania County. A funeral service will start at 2 p.m. Saturday for 62-year-old Joan Bernard, 24-year-old Emily Bivens and her 14-month-old son, Cullen Bivens. According to Emily's obituary, their 14-month-old son, who was also killed, was "the love of Emily and Blakes lives." Joan Bernard's obituary said that she "devoted her life to being the best Mama and Nana there ever was." The family will receive friends prior to the 2 p.m. service from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

On Thursday, members of the Montgomery Biscuits baseball team shared how they're supporting pitcher and Danville native Blake Bivens. Morgan Ensberg, the Biscuits' manager said they're doing everything they can to be there for Blake. Ryan Thompson, one of Bivens' teammates, said for Blake, family was everything. Both the Montgomery Biscuits and their Major League affiliate, the Tampa Bay Rays, plan to honor the Bivens family. The Biscuits said they're also making arrangements for anyone in the organization who wants to attend this Saturday's services for Blake's family.

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. - Friends and family gathered Wednesday night to pray, grieve and honor the victims of Tuesday's triple murder in Pittsylvania County. "Prayer changes things; prayer helps in a way that other means that we try can only go so far," Poe said. "We all go through battles and struggles and face things like this and have dark seasons, good seasons, bad seasons," said Penny Bartee, a Bivens family friend. Pittsylvania County Sheriff Mike Taylor struggling to find words at one points during Wednesday's news conference. The church family says faith will keep the families afloat, and they're including the alleged killer in their prayers.

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. - A day after three people were murdered in Pittsylvania County, a suspect is in custody and on suicide watch, but many questions remain. The Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate this case, including the scene. Matthew Bernard is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Matthew Bernard banged his head against the inside of the patrol car after being arrested. Matthew Bernard is expected to be in court soon, but the date has not been confirmed.
