Then, within 30 minutes of reading the headline, he had talked to his teamโs manager and was at the airport. Nothing will ever come close to feeling how I felt that day, and how I felt in that moment," said Bivens.

The Danville Register and Bee reported Friday that police cited the religious aspect while seeking access to Matthew Bernard's cellphones. Authorities say Bernard killed his sister, Emily Marie Bivens, and her 1-year-old son Cullen Bivens, and his mother, Joan Bernard, in late August. Emily Bivens was married to Blake Bivens, a pitcher for the Montgomery Biscuits, an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.

According to Emily's obituary, their 14-month-old son, who was also killed, was "the love of Emily and Blakes lives." Joan Bernard's obituary said that she "devoted her life to being the best Mama and Nana there ever was." The family will receive friends prior to the 2 p.m. service from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
