Starting Friday, Nov. 6, Franklin County High School, Benjamin Franklin Middle School and The Gereau Center will be operative through virtual instruction. All three schools returned to in-person learning on Thursday after a stint of virtual learning. This time, these schools will be virtual until Nov. 30, the Monday after Thanksgiving. It’s important to note that this does not affect students who are part of our self-contained Special Education classes at the high school or middle school.

School leaders emphasized that the decision to switch to virtual learning is not indicative of spread within Franklin County Public Schools, but rather, due to the significant rise in COVID-19 cases in Franklin County. Elementary school students won’t be affected by this change, school leaders said. Students in special education classes at Franklin County High School and Benjamin Franklin Middle School will still report to school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, according to school leaders.

According to school officials, the student was on school premises on Sept. 18 and had direct exposure to other members of the community. Those with direct exposure to this student were notified by the school and are currently quarantining. Franklin County Superindentent Dr. Mark Church said the school will remain open and officials are working with the health department to monitor the situation.
