The U.S. Forest Service said Matts Creek Wildfire has grown to 5,148 acres and is two percent contained.

Lynchburg and Bedford authorities are encouraging residents to think twice before pouring grease down the drain, and offering some tools to combat a growing issue.

Extra protocols are being put in place at the facility, including more locks and labels on the tanks and better checklists for both employees and delivery drivers.

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – Homeowners within the Country Estates Drive subdivision, off Route 460, have been asking for help since 2008. The Bedford Regional Water Authority said the challenge was connecting the rural area to the closest water line. In the past eight months, the county constructed a new water line. So, I think now they have the luxury of not having to think about water,” said Megan Pittman, director of administration for the Bedford Regional Water Authority. Homeowners agreed to pay some of the cost of the waterline extension above the water authority’s standard fees to make the project happen.

BEDFORD, Va. - Water services have been disrupted for many residents in Bedford, according to the Bedford Regional Water Authority. Officials say the disruption is due to a water line rupture.
