Daniel Flint waived his rights to a preliminary hearing but is now facing a different burglary charge related to his alleged role in the fire along with a felony arson charge. Organizers told 10 News because of the pandemic they couldnt have their annual fundraiser this year and used the $3,000 to create yard signs and a banner instead recognizing the students. Then later parents and students can pick up their signs to keep.

Police are still looking for the person responsible for setting the school on fire. In pictures sent to 10 News, the person is carrying a backpack and you can only see the back of their head. Police say they’ve got proof this person tried multiple times to start a fire throughout different parts of the building. Officials say that they are still working with several agencies on this investigation, and insist that they have not given up.

McCormack said his number one goal is to save the building, and that alone has left Bedford homeowners optimistic. “Just the fact that they’re still here with us and they’re ready to preserve and do better things is very promising to us,” said Bedford resident Jenee Welsh.

BEDFORD, Va. - The town of Bedford has kept its promise to making the loop a more walkable area. On Monday, town leaders unveiled a new bench, signs and a trash can that will be placed around the old Bedford Middle School. Town leaders had until Monday to get the project done. With help from community members, a local artist sketched the design on the benches centered on the Peaks of Otter. Town leaders said more benches and bike racks will be popping up throughout downtown and to look for pictures and announcements on Facebook.

BEDFORD (WSLS 10) - Architects are finalizing plans for a new Bedford Middle School. The school will be built next to Liberty High School. When Bedford reverted from a city to a town, a new middle school was part of the agreement. The Bedford County Board of Supervisors approved $44 million for the new middle school and a new, upgraded gym at Liberty High School. Construction of the new middle school is expected to start this fall.
