BASSETT, Va. – The Henry County Sheriff’s Office took a man in custody for four drug charges on Thursday. Authorities found the wanted person, 30-year-old Jamie Lee Ore, outside of the home. Deputies said Ore refused to exit the home, causing a search warrant to be obtained to enter the residence. The Sheriff’s Office assembled a tactical team with negotiators to assist in the incident. BASSETT, Va. – A man is in jail after authorities say he stabbed his brother during some type of altercation in Henry County on Thursday. 56-year-old Conis Callaway, of Bassett, has been charged with one count of malicious wounding in connection with the stabbing. Just before midnight Saturday, authorities were called to Blossom Street in Bassett where they found Brenda S. Turner, 46, with a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators say a domestic altercation at their home on Blossom Street led to the shooting. HENRY COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police are investigating a crash that left one Bassett man dead on Thursday night. At 11:25 p.m., police responded to Route 57, just east of Route 653, in Henry County. A 2006 Toyota Corolla was traveling east when it crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a 2003 Ford Escape, according to police. Michael Leon Hall Jr. was driving the Corolla and died at the scene. The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team was called to assist with the crash.

BASSETT, Va. – Authorities continue searching for a person of interest after a man was shot and later died in Bassett on Friday night. They found Robert Williams, 39, of Bassett, who had been shot multiple times. HENRY COUNTY, Va. – Authorities have charged two teenage boys with killing a 20-year-old Bassett man. Skyler Bryant, 20, died after being shot, according to the medical examiner’s office. After a 911 call regarding shots fired and a vehicle crash, authorities responded to 205 Erwin Street. They arrived to find Skyler Derrick Bryant, 20, unresponsive in a 2008 silver Ford Focus and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

BASSETT, Va. On Wednesday, Cunningham Tire manager Jamie Clark was most concerned the incoming storm and remnants of Tropical Storm Bertha could bring strong wind. The sound of a pressure washer cleaning mud off tires at Cunningham Tire Wednesday afternoon nearly drowned out the sound of cars going by on Fairystone Park Highway. Tarps had been put up inside Cunningham Tire Wednesday to try to keep rain from getting in. Henry County Public Safety director Matt Tatum estimated Sundays storm caused nearly $1 million in damage countywide. Something else that may help Cunningham Tire is the work VDOT did Tuesday and Wednesday to clean out culverts.

BASSETT, Va. – “It was really scary," said Tabitha Bowman when describing what she witnessed Sunday night when the hillside behind her home gave way. Chad said that’s the only reason the house didn’t fill up with water like his mother’s house next door. Inside his mother’s house, mud and water was seemingly everywhere. Though much will likely have to be thrown away, family members were able to salvage some items. Next door, Chad and Tabitha’s home is also damaged.

BASSETT, Va. – Monday, noon updateSome residents in Henry County have a lot of work to do after last night’s flash flooding. Then, as of 10:45 p.m., they did not evacuate because the water went down. A county spokesperson told 10 News emergency crews are relocating some residents in the Stanleytown Health & Rehabilitation Center in Bassett. They are prepared to evacuate residents if necessary, but evacuations were not happening as of 9 p.m. County officials said there was significant flooding, a partial structure collapse and electrical arcing from down electrical lines.

BASSETT, Va. – All the recent rain we’ve received has caused a historic moment at Philpott Dam. The dam was built in 1948, began hydropower production in 1953 and for the first time ever, the lake overflowed its spillway. The dam is doing what it was built to do and there is no danger of dam failure, according to the US Army Corps of Engineers. In an abundance of caution, USACE has sent engineers to Philpott Dam to take further instrument readings and real time observations during this record event.

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. – Two people are facing multiple drug charges after a traffic stop in Carroll County Friday. Carroll County deputies initiated a traffic stop on a 2016 Mazada 6 on Bellspur Road in the Laurel Fork community. Upon further search, Cassady was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and heroin. According to deputies, O'Leary was also in possession of suspected methamphetamine, heroin, digital scales and drug packaging material. Both were arrested and transported to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.
