He grabbed his son and put him on top of a roof for safety, away from the dangers lurking in the water. But before he could get up to the roof to hold Adrian Farrington Jr., a gust from the hurricane dragged the boy into the surge. He jumped underwater to save his sonAs soon as the storm surge swallowed his son, Farrington pushed through debris and rushed to the other side of the roof, where Adrian had vanished into the murky waters.

(CNN) - Pope Francis, who has tussled with the American president, American capitalists and American Catholics during his six years as pope, seems unfazed by the disputes. "For me it is an honor that Americans attack me," he told Nicolas Senze of Catholic media outlet La Croix, who has written a new book called "How America Wants to Change Popes." "This will be a bombshell," the Pope joked when Senze handed him a copy of the book. According to National Catholic Reporter, Senze's book focuses on two campaigns launched by American Catholics disturbed by the innovations of Francis' papacy. Views of Pope Francis among American Catholics have become increasingly polarized, according to the Pew Research Center.

(CNN) - Celebrity chef Jos Andrs who is famous for his humanitarian feeding efforts in areas stricken by disaster made his first trip to the Abaco Islands on Tuesday with food for those devastated by Dorian. Andrs told CNN he was able to fly 2,000 sandwiches and more than 1,000 oranges by helicopter to Abaco on Tuesday. Andrs said he's planning to transport between 5,000 and 7,000 more sandwiches to the island today. The chef told CNN he estimates he'll be serving 10,000 meals to the people of Abaco.

The wife of a Bahamas fisherman drowned as their house filled with water. FREEPORT, Bahamas - As Hurricane Dorian ravaged Freeport, the main city on Grand Bahama, fisherman Howard Armstrong had to watch helplessly as his wife died in the rising flood that claimed their home. His wife, Lynn, was standing on the kitchen cabinets, the only place where "your head would touch the roof," he said. After hours of waiting in the flooded house for rescue, Armstrong's wife succumbed to hypothermia and slipped under the water. "She was gone so quickly," Armstrong said as he waited for his wife's body to be recovered.

10 News Anchor Brittny McGraw spoke with a North Carolina man who is in the Bahamas and described the situation as "catastrophic." Joe Oliver is a marine biologist from North Carolina living and working in the Bahamas, experiencing Dorian's wrath firsthand. All that can be seen are miles of destruction and devastation in some parts of the Bahamas. "Trees are down everywhere..."Oliver is on Grand Bahama Island and says he's been through hurricanes before, but nothing like this. He says while the focus will eventually turn to rebuilding and recovery, right now, the focus for many is simply on surviving.

DANVILLE, Va. - God's Pit Crew is teaming up with Operation Compassion to help people in the Bahamas impacted by Hurricane Dorian. According to a news release, the two nonprofits are working together to send a tractor-trailer load of relief supplies to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, this weekend. The supplies will then be loaded onto a barge and sent to the Bahamas. God's Pit Crew is also working with Agape Flights to have up to 1,000 Blessing Buckets and generators flown to the island of Eleuthera, where many hurricane evacuees are located, according to the news release. From the latest forecast released by the National Hurricane Center, Dorian will move along the coast of Florida beginning as a Category 5 Hurricane, but will gradually weaken with time. Advisory on Friday, Hurricane Dorian is officially a major Category 3 hurricane with winds of 115 mph. According to the National Hurricane Center, Dorian is forecast to strengthen over the warm Atlantic waters and become a Category 4 hurricane before making landfall in Florida early next week.

ROANOKE, Va. - Hurricane Dorian has barely moved since Monday afternoon, wreaking havoc in the northern Bahamas. It is forecast to begin a turn to the north Tuesday, with impacts likely along the East Coast of the U.S. through Friday.
