Franks said. ”Averett University has been privileged to compete in the USA South, and we will always treasure the years of spirited competition,” Franks said. Current ODAC member Emory & Henry College will depart the ODAC after the 2021-22 academic year as it transitions to NCAA Division II. Greensboro College is an affiliate member of the ODAC in swimming, as is Southern Virginia University in football through 2020-21.

Police said the email made a general threat to the university. Danville authorities provided security both on the Main Campus and North Campus while investigators began tracking down the source of the message. According to police, there’s no indication this was a legitimate threat, but the university will remain on lockdown until further notice.

The university and Danville Police have responded and said there was no immediate threat during the initial response. Officials conducted a follow-up investigation based on information known to the university. Out of precaution, Danville police conducted an additional follow-up Sunday, resulting in the conclusion of the investigation Sunday afternoon. According to Danville police, the rumors on social media of shots being fired or related posts were also false.

About a dozen students at Averett University in Danville are watching helplessly as slow-moving Dorian hits their homes in the Bahamas. Winston Sinclair, a junior at Averett, said his family in Nassau was spared, but his friends saw the devastation firsthand. Dorian tore shutters off of Averett junior Peter Culmer's family home in New Providence and knocked down nearby power lines. So far, Hurricane Dorian has claimed at least five lives, destroyed homes and flooded storm shelters.
