WATCH: Appomattox softball, Glenvar girls and boys soccer advance in state tournament

Glenvar clinched the Region 2C wrestling championship on Saturday at James River High School. The Highlanders had six champions in the finals, including senior Mason Hylton, who won the 132lb class.

In only their fourth meeting ever in the Region 2C final, Appomattox beat Glenvar 38-34 to win the title. It was defensive plays in the end that sent the Raiders to victory.

For the last five years in a row, Glenvar and Appomattox County have met at some point in the Region 2C playoffs. On Friday, the two will meet in the Region Championship.

The defending Class 2 state champion Glenvar Highlanders faced Appomattox County in the 2C Region final. The Highlanders swept Appomattox 3-0 for the Region 2C title.

The Titans win Region 3D, Glenvar and Appomattox will play for the Region 2C crown.

Three student athletes signed on to continue their careers in Appomattox.

Appomattox beat Glenvar on Saturday 27-21 to win the Region 2C title and advance to the Class 2 State Semifinals. The Raiders got a pair of touchdowns from Jonathan Pennix and a 46-yard FG from Tye Robertson in the win. Appomattox moves to 11-1 on the season, as the are seeking their sixth state title in seven years. Glenvar finishes the season at 11-2.

Four SW Virginia area squads played for state titles on Saturday. Salem and Appomattox took home state gold, while Lord Botetourt and Galax claimed state silver.

When you drive into Appomattox, you know right away it’s a football town. The Raiders highest honors are listed above their stadium, four titles in five years.

The Appomattox Raiders beat Union 51-21 in the Class 2 state semifinal on Saturday. They will travel to Stuart’s Draft on Saturday for the title game.

It’s pretty unique that Glenvar’s Aiden Wolk is responsible for nearly all the points the Highlanders score.
