All of the cityโs council members, including Mayor Alonzo Jones, received the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine together Thursday morning. The idea came from vice mayor Gary Miller, a cardiologist concerned about the spread of the virus. โDo you want a day with a sore arm, or do you want four weeks on the ventilator?โIn addition to city council members, Danville Police Chief Scott Booth also lined up for a vaccination. City Council agreed to what the city stands to gain from Caesars Entertainment in exchange for allowing a casino resort at the old schoolfield site. The council voted that Alonzo Jones should remain the citys mayor. Jones was first elected to city council in 2010 and has remained on since. Gary Miller will serve the city as vice mayor. "There are people here who are tired and sick, sick and tired of bullying," Jones said. He says more constituents have called him about bullying than nearly any other issue so far and any step to stop bullying will be a good step. "Whether bullying is in the school system or whether it's on social media, you don't have to take it into your own hands," Jones said.
