Salem is working on the Spartan Online Academy. Salem High School staff has already determined what courses they can offer fully online and those will be options students can sign up for. We envision the Spartan Online Academy really being an application-based process,โ said Dr. Alan Seibert, Salem City Schools Superintendent who says not every student will qualify. โWeโve modeled the Spartan online academy after our other academy programs.

Probably the largest summer school program in the school divisionโs history,โ said Dr. Alan Seibert, Salem City Schools superintendent. Kindergarten students at high risk for reading failure (WSLS)Students at high risk for reading failure (WSLS)โWe do not want to have students not graduate this year, or next year, or the year after because of the pandemic,โ said Seibert. More kindergarten and first-grade students across Virginia are at high risk for reading failure.

One person sick is too many people sick for me.โAdMeanwhile, others like Salem City Schools have a hybrid approach. โI think it makes sense that local health departments have some discretion so they can tailor their recommendations to their area but it does add to the difficulty when one health districtโs doing one thing and one health districtโs doing another thing,โ said Seibert. In fact, we were basically where we were last year.โTalley says Martinsville City Schools is planning to bring pre-k, kindergarten, English learners and special needs students back by March 8. Read full article: School, city leaders talk timeline, funding for Salem High renovationSALEM, Va. - Salem City and school leaders met Tuesday night to talk about the funding and timeline for Salem High School's massive $36 million renovation. "We're at a pretty exciting point," said Dr. Alan Seibert, the school division's superintendent. Seibert said the district plans to send out bids for contractors at the end of December and pick one by the end of January. After picking one, school leaders will work with the new contractor to brainstorm ways to improve design plans and save money before hopefully breaking ground in May. The school district has been working closely with police and city council on the project.
