The 911 came in at 11:41 a.m. for a house fire at 1929 Crawley Ave. Firefighters arrived to find a two-story home engulfed in heavy smoke and flames, according to the South Boston Police Department. The house was declared a total loss after the heavy fire damage, according to police. Virginia State Police’s Bomb and Arson Unit is assisting South Boston police in the investigation to determine the fire’s cause and origin.

Around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Bedford County 911 received a call from the 100 block of Shepherd Lane reporting gunshots. They told deputies that the man who shot them was still inside the home. The suspect, who deputies later identified as 56-year-old Mark Edwin Turner, barricaded himself in the home for about two hours. "When deputies attempted to make contact he refused to come out," said Lt. Kyle Williams with the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.
