House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said: “Our hearts break tonight as we process the news of Congressman-elect Luke Letlow’s passing." When he announced his positive test for COVID-19, Letlow joined a list of Louisiana officials who have contracted the coronavirus since the pandemic began, including U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, Lt. Gov.

Good, who spoke during the State Board of Elections meeting, admitted that he missed the June 9 filing deadline, something he has never denied. Good said that the delegates arrived at the convention “fully knowledgeable” that he was three days late in filing his form. Some felt that the candidate who was selected by the people should be able to represent them on the ballot. Others; however, felt that missing this deadline was an unacceptable oversight and an extension should not be granted.

The winner will face Republican Bob Good in November’s general election. Policing and the fight for racial equality, broadband expansion to rural areas and health care top their list of importance. The candidates expect a smaller crowd at the polls due to more absentee ballot submissions in lieu of in-person voting. The Virginia Department of Elections expects to release an update polling location list next week.
