Duncan Weigand

Digital Content Producer

Duncan Weigand joined WSLS 10’s digital team in June 2024, weeks after graduating from Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s in communication studying multimedia journalism and a cognate in marketing.

Duncan has loved sports since he was little. He dabbled in sports broadcasting in high school where he streamed his school’s football, baseball and basketball games.

However, he discovered his passion for writing and journalism while in college where he wrote for a student-run sports media club during his freshman and sophomore years. He also covered sports for Virginia Tech’s student-run newspaper, the Collegiate Times, his junior and senior year.

During his college career, Duncan spent a summer interning at a local small-town paper in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania where he continued to improve his journalism and writing skills. He also interned with the D.C. Grays, a collegiate summer league baseball team.

While he is from Northern Virginia originally, his time in Blacksburg and at Virginia Tech made him fall in love with the New River Valley.

Duncan is excited to cover a region that has come to mean so much to him.

When he is not working you can find him cheering on the Pittsburgh Pirates in the summer, as well as the Penguins and Steelers in the fall and winter. Duncan also likes to hang out with family and friends in his free time.
