UPDATE
Our Game of the Week is E.C. Glass versus Patrick Henry.
In the first half, it was exactly what was expected in a back-and-forth battle.
PH was on the board in the first half with the opening drive. They found the endzone with a touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Cameron Hariston.
Glass struggled early to get anything going, and after a critical fumble, Patrick Henry was in the end-zone again with a quarterback sneak from senior Seth Shepherd.
But the Hilltoppers were not going away, and after a big catch, quarterback Max Calloway found the endzone with a touchdown pass to Amonte Thorton.
And in the next drive, it was the Hilltoppers again, but on defense with a big pick 6.
But the Patriots had an answer before half, with a big catch and score. It was 21-14 at the half, with Patrick Henry in the lead.
But it was a different story in the second half, though. The Hilltoppers started hot, marching the ball down the field for a game-tying touchdown.
Then PH was the team struggling to get anything going as the Hilltoppers were on the move again for another touchdown and their first lead of the game.
Glass held on to win the comeback, 34-21.
“We always feel like it is a matter of how disciplined we play,” said E.C. Glass head coach, Jamar Lovelace. “So we are just happy to get such a win over such a quality opponent like PH. Still not playing perfect, but guess 2 and 0 is the best you can be after two games and we are happy to be in the position to be 2 and 0 and still got a lot to learn, and we are still looking to try and be better every day.”
ORIGINAL STORY
E.C. Glass and Patrick Henry are coming off wins in week one. For this week, both teams are looking to go 2 and 0.
“We got to line up the right way, and we’ve really got to control their big plays,” said E.C. Glass head coach, Jamar Lovelace.
The E.C. Glass Hilltoppers are coming off a close win against Lord Botetourt in an overtime thriller.
This week, they are taking on the Patrick Henry Patriots, where they say it will be a game of discipline.
“We got to do what we are coached to do. We have got to trust our eyes. We’ve got to have our eyes in the right places, and then most off you’ve got to tackle,” said Lovelace.
“Huge discipline game, make sure everyone is on the same page, make sure everyone knows what their responsibility is as well,” said E.C. Glass Quarterback Max Calloway.
For the Patriots, they’re coming off a big win against Brookville, where they were firing on all cylinders, but this week, they will be facing a different offense than they are used to seeing
“They throw it a lot and they have showed a lot of empty formations, which you don’t see on a week-to-week basis a lot,” said Patrick Henry head coach, Alan Fiddler. “Glass has a lot of really good athletes. they can run well; they throw the ball a good bit. We’ve got to tackle well in space, and we’ve got to limit big plays.”
They say the key is to come out with the same energy as the Brookville game and to limit Glass’s pass-heavy offense
“Watching film, they don’t run much so we just got to get back to the quarterback to make sure he doesn’t have no passes to throw,” said Patrick Henry senior wide receiver and fs, Julius Davis.
“I tell my team 110% every play,” said running back and linebacker, Dayvion Journiette. “So, every play, 100% percent, so may the better man win.”
After talking to both teams, 10 News is expecting two explosive teams going back and forth all night. We’ll have highlights of the full game Friday night on 1st and 10.
