ROANOKE, Va. – Among the local high school games that tipped off Thursday night was William Byrd at William Fleming in a Blue Ridge District showdown.
The Lady Colonels went to work early and often, turning defense into offense. Signae Houston, Zakyah King, Chrishanti Henderson and Amari Worsham were all active in creating havoc on the defensive end. Deasia Priest connected on some early buckets as well.
While William Fleming went on to win 79-20, the big highlight of the night came just minutes before halftime as Amari Worsham scored a fade away jumper that helped further her hoops legacy. The junior eclipsed the 1,000 point mark of her career. She joins an elite group of standout girls hoop stars of the past who have reached such feat.
