Salem to retire Ataijah Taylor's jersey

ROANOKE, Va. – Salem High School has announced it will be retiring the jersey for former girls hoops star Ataijah “Tay” Taylor.

The class of 2013 grad finished her high school career as a 3-time All-State honoree with 1,609 points and helped lead the Spartans to their only state championship in her senior season.

Taylor, currently an assistant coach for the Patrick Henry girls program, was also the VHSL AA State Player of the Year in 2013 and was among the ESPN HoopGurlz Top 150-Player list.

Following her high school career, Taylor later starred at Wake Forest University where she started 55 games before graduating in just 3 years in 2016.

Taylor’s jersey retirement ceremony will take place January 14, when Patrick Henry plays at Salem.
