RADFORD, Va. – Dedmon Center was the place to be Friday afternoon for a double-header of basketball action.
The day started with the Radford men’s program hosting Virginia University of Lynchburg. It proved to be a 122-63 blowout victory for the Highlanders who return to the win column after dropping back-to-back losses at Utah and Colorado State.
Everyone impacted the game for Radford with all 13 players having scored points. Jarvis Moss and Jonas Sirtautas each netted 19 points while Chace Davis, Xavier Foster and Truth Harris all scored 12 points each. It was a game that allowed head coach Darris Nichols the opportunity to give his reserves valuable minutes for much of the game.
“You know, our challenge was, you know, just get lost in every possession,” Nichols said. “And I thought we did a good job of that. I thought we played the right way. You know, sometimes guys who aren’t getting as much opportunity will go out there and play out of character. And I don’t think we did. I thought we played the game the right way. I didn’t think guys were hunting shots or trying to do things that, you know, they normally don’t do.”
“You just got to play the right way and just stay focused on the goal. And that’s winning, of course,” said Highlanders guard Truth Harris. “So, yeah, I think that was the main goal, was just getting a win, knowing how we play, playing rapid basketball, and just come out with a win.”
Radford scored 64 points in the first half--the third most scored by the Highlanders inside the Dedmon Center. Their 122 points scored were just two shy of tying a program record of most points scored in a game. For the first time in a long time, Radford (10-4) has ten wins before the start of Big South Conference play.
The good vibes from the men’s game carried into the women’s game as well with the Highlanders taking down the Cavaliers of UVA-Wise 96-54.
Freshman Adelyn Traylor-Walker was perfect shooting 8-of-8 from the field for a career-high 21 points. The team finished with four players scoring in double figures as the program moved to a 2-10 record this season.
