ROANOKE, Va. – The VHSL announced today that Grayson County’s Mac Goad has been named the Class 1 Defensive Player of the Year.
The standout defensive back wrapped up his senior season with an impressive stat line: 58 tackles, 19 assists, six tackles for loss, five pass breakups, three interceptions, and a pick-six—all while playing through an injury.
As a receiver, he hauled in 42 catches for 921 yards, averaging 17.7 yards per reception, and scored 12 touchdowns. On the ground, he added 104 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries. Goad’s contributions added up to 1,156 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns.
Additionally, he handled kickoff duties, tallying 52 kicks for 2,358 total yards and nine touchbacks. An incredible all-around performance from the senior!
