ROANOKE, Va. – It was a special afternoon in northwest Roanoke as dozens came to celebrate the accomplishments and future success for a well-deserving standout athlete.
Family and friends came to Preston Park Recreation Center to celebrate Malachi Coleman before he leaves for Syracuse University. The prolific running back ended his William Fleming career as the program’s all-time rushing yards leader with over 5,000 for his career. Surrounded by teammates, coaches and friends, Coleman was humbled by the showing of support.
“It’s special,” Coleman said. Family and friends showing me love before I leave, old teammates, old coaches. I really appreciate everybody coming out. All my coaches have been pushing me hard. I love that they kept on pushing me hard to get me where I’m at today. Teammates pushing me hard. Can’t wait to get up there and get on the field and support and stand up for Roanoke.
Coleman it set to leave for Syracuse in early January as an early enrollee.
