LYNCHBURG, Va. – LCA defeated Kettle Run Saturday in the VHSL Class 3 State Championship, claiming back-to-back state titles.
“We don’t worry about anybody else but ourselves really,” said LCA head coach Frank Rocco. “I mean, these kids are outstanding young men. I mean, unbelievable young men and they they deserve everything that they’re getting and and what they’ve achieved to this point.”
The Bulldogs had no problems from the start, scoring a 53 yard touchdown on their first play from scrimmage, to the last with Henry Maier getting the game-ending interception.
Bulldogs defense forced 5 turnovers including four fumbles.
The electrifying Gideon Davidson closed out his high school career in a big way with 24 carries for 181 yards and three touchdowns. He also had a receiving touchdown for a total of four scores on the day.
“Going back-to-back is something that you know we’ve never done in the VHSL. This team, you know, was very capable of doing it and we got it done. I love this team,” said Davidson.
“It’s great. I just want to thank thank God for putting me here. You know he’s the only reason I can do anything,” said Bulldogs freshman quarterback Tyler Jackson. “I want to thank Coach Rocco for giving me this opportunity. So yeah, I mean, I didn’t really expect this but it’s awesome.”
With the win, LCA reached 28 consecutive victories and back-to-back Class 3 championships.
