SALEM, Va. – Grayson County faced off against Essex at the Salem Stadium on Saturday morning!
The Blue Devils fought hard to get their first-ever state title, but Essex came out ahead, 22-0.
“I’ve said it all along, the kids are great, hardworking young men,” head coach Stephen James said. “Obviously, they’re disappointed right now, I’m disappointed, if you don’t win that last one you’re always going to be disappointed. But the kids did a great job, they fought til the end, and did what we expected of them so you can’t ask for anything else.”
The historic football season helped bring the community together after the devastating flooding from Hurricane Helene.
“It brought everyone together a little more, we can’t thank the fans enough for the support we had today, hopefully we will be back here next year and get another shot at it.”
The Blue Devils finished their season 10-4.
