ROANOKE, Va. – The Berglund Center will open its doors and roll out the mats this weekend or the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships. Ferrum is the host school and local programs Ferrum, Washington & Lee, Averett and Roanoke College all have qualifiers for the event. The Star City hosted the event back in 2019, and our local coaches are looking forward to competing at this level — right in their own backyard.
“I think our guys want the crowd, you know? We’ve always been known as being a very emotional team for right or wrong, but I think we feed we feed off the madness, we feed off that energy,” Averett Head Wrestling Coach Blake Roulo said.
”All their teammates, their whole team is gonna be there in the crowd, we will have a huge section. We’ve already blocked up a whole section of seats for our fans there so I mean it’s exciting for our team. It helps him feel a little bit more comfortable cause we’re training and sleeping in our own beds, training in our own room — all the way up until the tournament,” Ferrum Head Coach Logan Meister said.
Doors open 9 a.m. Friday, with preliminary rounds beginning at 11 a.m.
