Mental fortitude and determination carrying Glenvar boys soccer

Highlanders carry a 19-0-1 record into the state semis

GLENVAR, Va. – It’s a disciplined team who’s play is just as intimidating as the one word motto on the back of their team shirts--Destroy. That’s the main goal the Glenvar boys soccer team has every time it takes the field and they’ve done that quite well this season.

The Highlanders are back in the VHSL Class 2 State Semifinals for the second straight year. Coach Josh Jones has credited the team’s experience and mental fortitude for its success, a 19-0-1 record this season.

“I’m so proud of our guys just all year they’ve worked hard, put in time and been committed,” said Jones. “We’re 19-0-1 and another game Friday but just so proud of the execution they’ve embraced this year.”

“We had a lot of returning players but our freshman class has been great for us and each game we took one at a time and that was our goal and we’ve been doing that,” said Highlanders senior Riley Geddes.

Glenvar will play Nandua 9 a.m. Friday at Spartan Field. The Glenvar girls program is also in the Class 2 State Semifinals and will play Luray on Friday in Salem also.
