Salem falls to Charleston 11-2, drops first home game of the season

RiverDogs scored five insurance runs in the 8th inning

SALEM, Va. – Salem opened up a six-game home series with Charleston on a cool, brisk Tuesday night. The Red Sox started the scoring in the bottom of the third with an RBI triple from Eddinson Paulino for an early 1-0 lead.

Charleston responded in the top of the fourth inning with four runs to take the lead, then again in the fifth for the 5-1 advantage. After getting a few runners aboard in the bottom half, the Red Sox scored a run via a wild pitch closing the gap to 5-2 but that’s as close as it would get.

The RiverDogs would add five insurance runs in the eighth inning to secure the 11-2 victory and handing Salem its first home loss of the season.

The two teams are back on the diamond Wednesday night in Salem for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
