SALEM, Va. – Salem and Jefferson Forest lacrosse matchups never fail to disappoint. In recent years, it’s been the norm for this game to end in a one-point victory for either team. That was no different Monday night, when the Spartans earned a 9-8 double-overtime victory.
It was a back-and-forth affair from the start with Jefferson Forest striking less than two minutes into the game. Aidan Cherry had a running start from the right of the goal before slashing in and scoring for the 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Salem responded thanks to Kyman Kinny. He worked his way through thick traffic to score the goal and tie the game 1-1.
Still, in the opening period, Jake Woke was able to skip the ball into the net for a 2-1 advantage. The equalizer came yet again this time from Jackson Jones of the Spartans, who also shot low to skip one in the net.
Jefferson Forest held a 3-2 advantage at halftime before Salem was able to come away with the 9-8 win in double overtime.
In Forest, the Salem girls lacrosse team was also victorious over Jefferson Forest by a score of 14-8.
