Auburn Boys deliver state basketball championship

Eagles down Washington & Lee for Class 1 title

Richmond, Va. – Auburn finished the job, winning the VHSL Class 1 state title over Washington & Lee 61-49. The Eagles were co-champions in 2020, unable to compete after traveling to Richmond for the title game because of the Covid shutdown. Auburn trailed by a point after one quarter but rallied for a 32-21 halftime lead.

The title culminates the career of guard Ethan Millirons, who leaves the school as the program’s all-time leading scorer. His brother, Nick, scored a team high 18 points in the win. Teammate Samuel Duncan had 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Auburn ran through the Mountain Empire a perfect 12-0, and finishes the season 22-8--having played a schedule that was built to get them ready for this run. Washington & Lee finishes 15-8.
