West Virginia rallies from 5-0 down for victory

BLACKSBURG, Va.

Virginia Tech posted a 5-0 lead over the visiting No. 25-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers, but could not hold the lead in a 8-6 loss. West Virginia scored four unearned runs to leave Blacksburg with their 24th win.

The Hokies built a 5-0 lead with a four-run third inning. Matt Dauby hit a three-run shot to cap the big frame. West Virginia rallied in the top of the fourth with six runs of its own, three of which were unearned. The key blow was a Kyle Davis three-run home run.

Tech pulled even in the fifth, but West Virginia quickly responded with the go-ahead runs for the 8-6 win. The Hokies fall to 20-23 with the loss. Virginia Tech will look ahead to a three-game ACC series at NC State in Raleigh, North Carolina this weekend. Game one is set for Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Doak Field.
