Hokies Defense Ready to Reload for 2017

Blacksburg (WSLS-10 Sports)- Virginia Tech opens spring practice this week knowing they will be replacing four starters on the defensive side of the ball. In addition, they have four potential starters that are missing the spring due to injuries. Coach Bud Foster remains one of the nation's finest architects of quality defensive units, and he's been in this situation before.

"We're gonna find out who can play we're going to evaluate their strengths and their weaknesses we're hopefully going to put them in the right spots that's going to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. They're going to have to learn positions- some of them are going to be learning new positions and they need to learn the expectations of those positions and what we expect his coaches from the defense of side of the ball but that's kind of where we are, " explains Foster.

Hokies linebacker Andrew Motuapuaka says this spring should be easier since it will be second time with coach Fuente.

"Knowing what to expect and stuff like that..so I guess it was easier to lead the younger guys and stuff like that--versus last year when no one knew what we were going to get, so we kinda just jumped in," says Motuapuaka.

The Hokies spring game is scheduled for April 22nd at Lane Stadium.
