Wythe County discusses future of Speedwell Elementary School

WYTHEVILLE (WSLS 10) - The Wythe County school board sat down with the board of supervisors Tuesday to discuss the budget situation for next year.  

This drew a crowd of parents and residents because board members talked about the possibility of closing Speedwell Elementary School.  

They say this could help cover the budget deficit and fund an ongoing capital improvement project at schools across the county.  

Although nothing is set in stone, many residents are already speaking out to save the school.  

The school board must turn in a budget to the board of supervisors by April 1st.  They say Speedwell Elementary School's future will be clearer once the budgets are set.
