Police identify 24-year-old woman killed in southeast Roanoke Sunday morning

Police say she was found with one gunshot wound

ROANOKE, Va. – UPDATE, 11:45 a.m. Monday, July 22: 

Authorities have identified the woman killed in a shooting in southeast Roanoke early Sunday morning. 

24-year-old Salonya Evans was found outside a home in southeast Roanoke in the 900 block of Morehead Avenue Southeast and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call 540-344-8500 or text 274637 and start the text with "RoanokePD." Both texts and calls remain anonymous.    


UPDATE, 8:25 a.m. Sunday, July 21: 
Roanoke Police have released an update on the early Sunday morning deadly shooting in southeast Roanoke.

They said the victim who died is a woman who had one gunshot wound. She was found outside a home and pronounced dead at the scene. Police are waiting to release her name until family has been notified.

Police said there are still no arrests in the case and the investigation is ongoing.

Roanoke Police are investigating a homicide in Southeast Roanoke. It happened early Sunday morning sometime after 1 a.m. in the 900 block of Morehead Avenue Southeast.

Police say one person is dead and no one is in custody. Neighbors in the area reported on social media hearing gunshots at the same time as police were called.
