Hiring 10 deputy sheriff's

ROANOKE, Va.- – For the first time, the Roanoke City Sheriff's Office is holding a one day recruitment event.

The office has 10 vacancies they want to fill. The one-day expedited deputy sheriff recruitment event is Saturday Oct. 21 at the Roanoke Police Academy at three different times during the day.

The starting pay for a deputy rose from $35,000 to $36,500.

"It's expedited because they'll be doing the written test, the physical agility test, the fingerprinting and all of the things they need to start the hiring process. If they pass all their testing, then they'll be given the initial interview the same day," said Teresa Benson, recruitment specialist.
