The Virginia Tech Rescue Squad is adding another emergency vehicle to its fleet.
The squad bought a new ambulance this month, after saving 35 percent of its budget over the last few years.
This is the first new ambulance the squad has had in seven years. It comes with a stretcher -loading system, making it easier to load patients into the back of the ambulance.
The new rescue unit is also more reliable, which is important because the squad an ambulance at all major events on campus.
"We've seen calls over this year. With the increase of about 700 students. We are running about 50 more calls than last year," said Chief Michael Geary.
The new ambulance will replace an older one that was having motor problems.
