FRANKLIN COUNTY – The Franklin County Humane Society is looking for more people to adopt than ever before.
The center has become overcrowded after receiving animals from surrounding animal shelters including those in Pittsylvania and Roanoke County which are also overcrowded.
The director of the center, Anita Scott, said this is the most animals the facility has ever seen.
"Every year around this time we see an influx of animals” Scott said. “This year it seems a little bit more relentless and just crazy”.
The facility received six more dogs Thursday night from a Roanoke animal shelter.
The Humane Society offered to help after the facility reached its capacity around July 4.
According to Scott, 80 percent of the animals at the facility are from the Franklin County community. The rest are from surrounding areas.
“We had six come in last night to our care,” Scott said. “We are working on getting them vetted, ready for adoption and settled in."
The center is now running a “name your price” adoption fee special for those who are ready to adopt an animal.
They are also in need of donations and volunteers.
