Virginia sees 2,036 new coronavirus cases, now reporting 570,982 statewide

There are now 7,963 deaths from the coronavirus in Virginia

As of February 25, Virginia is reporting 570,982 cases of the coronavirus across the commonwealth since March 2020.

As of Thursday, a total of 1,709,828 vaccines have been administered across Virginia, with 543,394 people being fully vaccinated, according to VDH.

Here’s a breakdown of the 2,036 new coronavirus cases reported in Virginia:

  • 252 new cases in Fairfax County
  • 149 new cases in Virginia Beach
  • 109 new cases in Prince William County
  • 90 new cases in Chesapeake
  • 88 new cases in Henrico County
  • 77 new cases in Newport News
  • 67 new cases in Chesterfield County
  • 60 new cases in Montgomery County
  • 57 new cases in Loudoun County
  • 56 new cases in Norfolk
  • 54 new cases in Roanoke County
  • 46 new cases in Arlington County
  • 40 new cases in Petersburg
  • 39 new cases in Suffolk
  • 37 new cases in Albemarle County
  • 36 new cases in Hampton
  • 31 new cases in Richmond and Spotsylvania County
  • 29 new cases in Roanoke
  • 23 new cases in Isle of Wight County
  • 22 new cases in Hanover County and Pittsylvania County

  • 6 new cases in Carroll County, Nelson County, Amelia County and Fluvanna County
  • 5 new cases in Accomack County, Prince George County, Wythe County, Winchester and Russell County
  • 4 new cases in Amherst County, Dinwiddie County, Martinsville, Franklin County, Manassas Park, Rappahannock County, Southampton County and Fairfax
  • 3 new cases in Appomattox County, Louisa County, Smyth County, Nottoway County, Pulaski County, Lancaster County, Surry County, Clarke County, Page County and Charles City County
  • 2 new cases in Middlesex County, Greene County, Williamsburg, King George County, Buckingham County, Scott County, Buchanan County, Franklin, Cumberland County, Buena Vista, Northumberland County, Poquoson and Northampton County
  • 1 new case in Sussex County, Essex County, Mathews County, Westmoreland County, Lunenburg County, King and Queen County, Madison County, Bristol, Greensville County, Emporia, Bath County and Waynesboro
  • Brunswick County, Craig County and Rockbridge County decreased by one case
  • Goochland County decreased by three cases
  • Richmond County decreased by eight cases
  • Covington decreased by nine cases
  • Salem decreased by 24 cases

According to the health department, decreases in cases can be attributed to a person getting tested in a different locality than where they live or the automation process for electronically reported lab results may attach the wrong jurisdiction for a particular zip code.

As of Thursday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 7,399,523 total testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
