Virginia sees 3,860 new coronavirus cases, now reporting 262,730 statewide

There are now 4,260 deaths from the coronavirus in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. – As of December 8, Virginia is now reporting 262,730 cases of the coronavirus across the commonwealth since March.

Tuesday’s total of 262,730 cases marks an increase from Monday’s total of 258,870 cases.

Here is a breakdown of the 3,860 new coronavirus cases reported Tuesday:

  • 725 new cases in Fairfax County
  • 268 new cases in Prince William County
  • 177 new cases in Virginia Beach
  • 173 new cases in Loudoun County
  • 160 new cases in Chesterfield County
  • 144 new cases in Henrico County and Norfolk
  • 87 new cases in Roanoke County
  • 84 new cases in Alexandria
  • 82 new cases in Frederick County
  • 67 new cases in Lynchburg
  • 66 new cases in Dickenson County
  • 61 new cases in Augusta County
  • 60 new cases in Hampton
  • 57 new cases in Spotsylvania County
  • 54 new cases in Chesapeake
  • 53 new cases in Montgomery County
  • 50 new cases in Bedford County and Bland County
  • 48 new cases in Richmond
  • 47 new cases in Pulaski County
  • 42 new cases in Tazewell County
  • 41 new cases in Nottoway County, Roanoke and Botetourt County
  • 40 new cases in Arlington County
  • 37 new cases in Hanover County

  • 21 new cases in Suffolk, Wise County and Warren County

  • 19 new cases in Salem
  • 18 new cases in Newport News, Wythe County, Scott County, Carroll County and Radford
  • 17 new cases in Albemarle County
  • 15 new cases in Henry County and Buchanan County
  • 12 new cases in Fauquier County and Powhatan County
  • 11 new cases in Caroline County, Giles County, Galax and King George County
  • 10 new cases in Lee County, James City County, Isle of Wight County, Patrick County, Covington, Manassas Park, Appomattox County and Westmoreland County
  • 9 new cases in Rockingham County, Harrisonburg and Louisa County
  • 8 new cases in Petersburg, Accomack County, Fluvanna County, Prince George County and Floyd County
  • 7 new cases in Fredericksburg, Culpeper County, Grayson County, Buena Vista, Hopewell, Martinsville, Dinwiddie County and Page County
  • 6 new cases in Charlottesville, Goochland County, Clarke County and Prince Edward County
  • 5 new cases in York County, Bristol, Lunenburg County and Madison County
  • 4 new cases in Franklin, New Kent County, Rockbridge County, Orange County, Brunswick County, Amelia County and Craig County
  • 3 new cases in Southampton County, Sussex County and Norton
  • 2 new cases in Greene County, Bath County, Greensville County, Northampton County, Fairfax and Mathews County
  • 1 new case in Waynesboro, Colonial Heights, Halifax County, Rappahannock County, Emporia, Cumberland County, Falls Church, Middlesex County, Charles City County, Surry County, Charlotte County, Northumberland County and Highland County
  • Poquoson and Lexington decreased by two cases
  • Richmond County decreased by three cases
  • Staunton decreased by 35 cases (Augusta County, which surrounds Staunton, went up by 61 cases)

As of Tuesday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 4,074,402 total testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
