RICHMOND, Va. – As of September 22, Virginia is now reporting 142,010 cases of the coronavirus across the commonwealth since March.

Tuesday’s total of 142,010 marks an increase from Monday’s total of 141,138 cases.
Here is a breakdown of the 872 new coronavirus cases in Virginia:
- 146 new cases in Southampton County
- 68 new cases in Fairfax County
- 61 new cases in Prince William County
- 41 new cases in Prince George County
- 36 new cases in Harrisonburg
- 32 new cases in Chesterfield County and Roanoke City
- 24 new cases in Richmond City
- 20 new cases in Henrico County
- 19 new cases in Norfolk
- 18 new cases in Virginia Beach
- 16 new cases in Lynchburg and Henry County
- 12 new cases in Manassas, Stafford County and Sussex County
- 11 new cases in Alexandria, Hanover County, Frederick County, Spotsylvania County and Suffolk
- 10 new cases in Franklin County
- 9 new cases in Newport News and Franklin
- 8 new cases in Charlottesville and Chesapeake
- 7 new cases in Danville, Hampton and Campbell County
- 6 new cases in Montgomery County, Fauquier County, Caroline County, Fredericksburg and Westmoreland County
- 5 new cases in Pittsylvania County, Bedford County, Carroll County, Washington County, Nottoway County, Prince Edward County and Amherst County
- 4 new cases in Fluvanna County, Arlington County, Pulaski County, Portsmouth, Lexington, Powhatan County, Colonial Heights and Surry County
- 3 new cases in Albemarle County, Rockingham County, Halifax County, James City County, Tazewell County, Smyth County, Hopewell, Goochland County, Greensville County, Floyd County and Galax
- 2 new cases in Staunton, York County, Radford, Rockbridge County, Isle of Wight County, King William County, Mathews County, Petersburg, Dickenson County, Mecklenburg County, Charlotte County, Martinsville, Wise County, Bristol and Cumberland County
- 1 new case in Botetourt County, Dinwiddie County, Buchanan County, Orange County, Culpeper County, Williamsburg, Winchester, Lee County, Page County, Wythe County, Northumberland County, Scott County, Shenandoah County, Lunenburg County, Essex County, Appomattox County, Giles County, Amelia County, Buckingham County, Fairfax City, New Kent County, Buena Vista, Bland County and Bath County
- Manassas Park, Rappahannock County and Poquoson have all decreased by one case
- Richmond County has decreased by 14 cases
As of Tuesday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 2,040,457 total testing encounters.
The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
