RICHMOND, Va. – As of September 21, Virginia is now reporting 141,138 cases of the coronavirus across the commonwealth since March.

Monday’s total of 141,138 marks an increase from Sunday’s total of 140,511 cases.
Here is a breakdown of the 627 new cases in Virginia:
- 46 new cases in Fairfax County
- 39 new cases in Chesterfield County
- 37 new cases in Southampton County
- 36 new cases in Montgomery County
- 30 new cases in Harrisonburg
- 29 new cases in Prince William County
- 26 new cases in Henrico County
- 23 new cases in Smyth County
- 22 new cases in Loudoun County
- 21 new cases in Richmond
- 20 new cases in Alexandria
- 15 new cases in Lynchburg and Sussex County
- 14 new cases in Charlottesville and Chesapeake
- 13 new cases in Rockingham County and Grayson County
- 12 new cases in Virginia Beach
- 11 new cases in Arlington County
- 10 new cases in Stafford County
- 8 new cases in Hanover County
- 7 new cases in Newport News, Danville and Augusta County
- 6 new cases in Spotsylvania County and Campbell County
- 5 new cases in Pittsylvania County, Bedford County, Lancaster County, Caroline County, Isle of Wight County, Russell County and Mecklenburg County
- 4 new cases in Albemarle County, York County, Dinwiddie County, Suffolk, Winchester and Greensville County
- 3 new cases in Frederick County, Fauquier County, Halifax County, Staunton, Pulaski County, Portsmouth, James City County, Orange County, Washington County, Radford, Petersburg and Northumberland County
- 2 new cases in Hampton, Tazewell County, Amherst County, Powhatan County, Page County, Westmoreland County, Wise County, Manassas Park, Franklin, Floyd County, Emporia, Waynesboro, Clarke County and King George County
- 1 new case in Roanoke, Manassas, Henry County, Fluvanna County, Carroll County, Buchanan County, King and Queen County, Rockbridge County, Prince Edward County, Lee County, Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Wythe County, Dickenson County, Goochland County, Essex County, Giles County, Surry County, Warren County, Bristol, Galax and Accomack County
- Lexington, Shenandoah County, and Alleghany County decreased by one case
- Roanoke County decreased by two cases
As of Monday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 141,138 total testing encounters.
The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
