Virginia sees 1,615 new coronavirus cases, now reporting 39,342 statewide

RICHMOND, Va. – There are now 39,342 cases of the coronavirus in Virginia as of May 26.

Tuesday’s total of 39,342 cases marks an increase from Monday’s total of 37,727, Sunday’s total of 36,244, Saturday’s total of 35,749, Friday’s total of 34,950, Thursday’s total of 34,137 and Wednesday’s total of 32,908.

Here is a breakdown of the 1,615 new coronavirus cases in Virginia:

  • 290 new cases in Prince William County
  • 139 new cases in Richmond City
  • 107 new cases in Alexandria
  • 54 new cases in Loudoun County
  • 49 new cases in Buckingham County
  • 43 new cases in Manassas City
  • 41 new cases in Chesterfield County
  • 38 new cases in Henrico County
  • 31 new cases in Arlington County
  • 27 new cases in Culpeper County
  • 26 new cases in Accomack County
  • 24 new cases in Stafford County
  • 21 new cases in Frederick County
  • 20 new cases in Sussex County
  • 18 new cases in Spotsylvania County
  • 16 new cases in Page County
  • 15 new cases in Shenandoah County and Mecklenburg County
  • 14 new cases in Harrisonburg
  • 13 new cases in Galax and Augusta County

As of Tuesday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 298,270 total testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
