SOUTHSIDE (WSLS 10) -- Farmers in Halifax, Henry and Pittsylvania counties can now apply for emergency loan assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency (FSA).
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) announced on Friday the USDA issued contiguous disaster designations for the three counties because they border counties in North Carolina that receive primary disaster declarations.

Farmers have eight months from the date of the disaster declaration to apply for the emergency loans and they must meet eligibility requirements.
The FSA will take into account the extent of production losses on the farm and the farmer's ability to pay back the loan.
