Six injured after release of dangerous vapor at Celanese Corporation in Narrows

GILES COUNTY, Va. – Six people have been injured after the release of a dangerous vapor occurred at the Celanese Corporation in Narrows on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the Celanese Corporation said a release of acetic acid vapor occurred in the Cellulose Acetate Unit around 10 a.m. on Thursday. The initial release of the vapor resulted in injuries to six employees. The release was quickly contained, and the corporation does not expect any additional impact.

Celanese said their emergency response plan has been activated, appropriate agencies have been notified, and they are fully cooperating with first responders who arrived quickly on scene. They also said all their employees were accounted for.

The cause of the incident is also under investigation.
