Emergency Lockdown Blessing Buckets rolled out in Grayson County Schools

GRAYSON CO., Va. – Grayson County Public Schools is enhancing classroom safety by installing Lockdown Blessing Buckets across the county.

The buckets are designed to provide essential emergency supplies during extended school lockdowns.

Tonya Lawrence, principal of Fairview Elementary School, emphasized the importance of safety, stating,

“Safety is always our number one priority here at school,” said Tonya Lawrence, principal of Fairview Elementary School. “This is definitely a way we can address those concerns and make sure we have parameters in place.”

Donated by God’s Pitcrew in Danville, Justin Hines from the Fries Fire Department said it all started while taking back supplies they were given for Helene’s recovery and they saw the buckets.

“It caught our eye, and we went to making some calls to the local schools there at Fries, and then it sort of grew to all of Grayson County Schools,” Hines said.

Each bucket contains a first aid kit, tourniquet, water, honey for diabetics, toilet paper, and more.

“Anything that could be possibly used during a lockdown should be in this bucket,” Hines said.

Dean Horton, the school resource officer at Fairview Elementary, said these buckets will help in case of lockdowns.

“If we had [a lockdown] that lasted an extended period of time, I think it would come in handy,” Horton said.

Horton also said safety measures in schools over the past two decades have continued.

“It’s definitely grown as I see it as an individual enforcement,” Horton said.

Principal Lawrence said she knows safety is at the forefront of everything they do at school.

“[The teachers] care deeply about the kids,” Lawrence said

Throughout the week, local fire departments are delivering the buckets to each school in the county.
