Snow Creek Elementary School, Christian Heritage Academy closed for the remainder of the week

School officials said this is due to an outbreak of flu and other illnesses

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – Snow Creek Elementary School in Franklin County will be closed for students on Thursday, Jan. 30, and Friday, Jan. 31 due to an outbreak of the flu and other illnesses.

School officials said currently, 30% of their students are absent because of flu or flu-like symptoms, and several staff members have also been affected.

During these two days, the school will offer virtual learning, and staff members will be available to assist students and families virtually. The school plans on using this time to thoroughly sanitize and clean the building.

“Please remember that the health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority,” Franklin County Public Schools Superintendent Kevin Siers said. “If your child is experiencing symptoms of illness, please keep them home. Students who have been sick should remain home until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours.”

Christian Heritage Academy in Rocky Mount will also be closed on Thursday and Friday. Monday, Feb. 17 will now be a regular school day, the spelling bee is rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 4, and the State of the School will be rescheduled for Feb. 21. Coach Slough will alert parents and students about any adjustments made to any sports-related events or activities.
