Franklin Co. Public Schools announces academic calendar changes following winter storm

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – Franklin County Public Schools will be making changes to its academic calendar following school closures caused by wintry weather.

The Franklin County School Board has approved the following changes to get students back on track and allow the school district to wrap up its first semester by Jan. 21:

  • Thursday, Jan. 16: Regular school day
  • Friday, Jan. 17: Regular school day and will be the last school day of the semester
  • Monday, Jan. 20: Schools will remain closed for the holiday
  • Tuesday, Jan. 21: Teacher workday
  • Wednesday, Jan. 22: Regular school day, first day of the second semester
  • Monday, Feb. 17: Regular school day
  • Tuesday, March 25: Regular school day

School officials said they may need to implement virtual instruction for snow days in the future. Virtual Learning Days will be noted in any school closure announcements. If not specified, the closure will be considered a regular snow day.

Parents are encouraged to reach out to the principal of their child’s school with any questions they have about the plan for virtual learning.
