Former employee at Lynchburg daycare faces charges after assault allegations

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Disturbing allegations have surfaced involving a former staff member at Elizabeth’s Early Learning Center (EELC) in Lynchburg. Georgia Brown has been arrested and charged with assault and battery after being accused of roughly handling multiple children at the daycare.

The charges are the result of an investigation by the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS).

According to investigation documents, the incidents took place between October and November of 2024. The investigation centers on claims involving five two-year-old children.

In another case, Brown allegedly grabbed a child by the ankles, causing the child’s head to strike a piece of furniture.

An anonymous parent from EELC shared a letter sent on January 12th from the daycare’s Board President, confirming that Georgia Brown was the employee arrested. The letter outlined the allegations involving the children and included the center’s plans for addressing the situation.

As part of their response, EELC announced plans to install cameras in all classrooms, retrain staff, and promote a culture where staff members are encouraged to intervene if they witness any inappropriate behavior.

In a follow-up letter issued on January 14th, the daycare’s Executive Director revealed that the Board of Directors had unanimously voted to proceed with the camera installation, setting a targeted completion date of 90 days.

We reached out to Elizabeth’s Early Learning Center for further comment on the matter but did not receive a response.

Georgia Brown is scheduled to appear in Lynchburg Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on April 24, 2025, for her first court hearing.
