Healthcare costs are rising across the commonwealth, and pharmacies are closing. It’s an issue that some Virginia legislators are hoping to address.
Charlottesville-area delegate Katrina Callen is teaming up with Virginia Beach Senator Aaron Rouse to find a solution.
“It’s happening in urban areas that they can’t access pharmacies. It’s happening in rural areas where people have to drive long distances to get to a pharmacist.”
Katrina Callsen, Delegate for Virginia’s 54th District
The “Save Local Pharmacies Act” was introduced ahead of the session.
Callsen and Rouse say it will require one state-overseen PBM, or pharmacy benefits manager, to serve Medicaid patients.
If passed, they believe it will increase transparency in the healthcare system.
