Roanoke man appears in court for 2022 bank robbery

A Roanoke man made a court appearance on Thursday following his indictment for an October 2022 bank robbery, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Virginia said.

67-year-old Michael McCoy was indicted last month on the following charges:

  • One count of conspiracy to commit bank robbery
  • Two counts of bank robbery (one of which includes the use of a dangerous weapon)
  • One count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence

McCoy was initially arrested in Newport News in late 2024 on other charges. A second defendant, Dawn Davis, also pleaded guilty to related charges,

According to court documents, McCoy stole over $6,000 from two Truist Bank locations, one on October 26, and one on October 28. We reported on these robberies in 2022.
