Veterans who served multiple times can now get up to 12 months of education benefits.
Those who served at least two periods can now receive up to 48 months of GI Bill benefits, instead of the previous six-month limit.
“I want to talk to any veteran who may be watching to encourage them to apply for earned benefits. One of the things that I hear all too often is either veterans don’t know about their earned benefits...Or they may think that someone else deserves it more than them,” Josua Jacobs, Under Secretary for Benefits at the Department of Veterans Affairs, said.
This could impact up to 1.04 million veterans and beneficiaries. The Department of Veterans Affairs will automatically review claims for over 600,000 veterans.
The VA will be reaching out to others directly to file a claim.
