LIST: Warming centers and shelter options during winter storm

As temperatures drop and winter storms approach, communities are opening warming centers and shelters to provide refuge for those in need.

Here is a list of available options:

Rescue Mission of Roanoke: The Rescue Mission of Roanoke is an overnight shelter that’s open 24/7, 365 days a year.

Franklin County: Redwood United Methodist Church, Scruggs Fire Department and Cool Branch Fire Department

Meadowbrook Community Center: The Montgomery County Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department is opening a warming station on Monday, January 6, from 2-6 p.m. at the Meadowbrook Community Center in Shawsville. If you’re without power, you can get access to hot water and charging stations.

City of Lynchburg Overnight Warming Center: In partnership with the Salvation Army, the City of Lynchburg is opening an overnight warming center for unsheltered individuals and families. Located at 2215 Park Avenue, this low-barrier center will be open on the following nights:

  • Monday, January 6, from 8 p.m. to Tuesday, January 7, at 8 a.m.
  • Tuesday, January 7, from 8 p.m. to Wednesday, January 8, at 8 a.m.

Warming Center of Martinsville and Henry County: If you are experiencing homelessness or don’t have power, you can come to the MHC Warming Center to stay warm. It’s located at 603 S Memorial Blvd Martinsville, VA.

The Least of These Ministry: TLOT offers a warming bus during nights when temperatures are below 40 degrees.

Hope Valley Church in Christiansburg: Hope Valley Church is offering services to those who are unsheltered or without power in Christiansburg. If you’re in need, you can message them directly on social media.

Elisha’s House - Galax Warming Shelter: Located in Galax, Elisha’s House serves as a warming shelter for those in the area needing protection from the cold. You must arrive at 10 p.m. and leave at 7:30 a.m.

Taking it to the Streets - Pulaski: The Warming Station is located at 235 N. Jefferson Ave. in downtown Pulaski and opens at 6 p.m. when temperatures are 40 degrees or lower.

Temporary Shelter - City of Refuge: The City of Refuge is providing temporary shelter services from now until Jan. 7 at 9 a.m.
