No injuries reported after Norfolk Southern Train derails in Roanoke

10 cars have derailed near Peters Creek Road and Stee Drive and no injuries have been reported

ROANOKE, Va. Update:

No injuries were reported after a Norfolk Southern Train derailed shortly after 4:30 p.m. Friday, according to Norfolk Southern.

Norfolk Southern says 10 cars derailed, there were no injuries or leaks, and there is no danger to the public.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation by Norfolk Southern, according to the company.

10 News has learned Norfolk Southern Personnel are on site and will begin cleanup soon.

Roanoke Fire and EMS also said in a statement that crews on the scene also determined that there were no hazards and no injuries.

Emergency Crews are currently on the scene of a massive train derailment near Peters Creek Road and Steel Drive.

10 News was on the scene and what we know so far is that 14 cars have derailed. Officials say there were no injuries.

The train was a freight train carrying tankers, there is no word on what, if anything, was in the tanker cars that derailed.

Hazmat crews are on the scene assessing the situation.
